Sylbert Bolton

Sylbert Bolton, Wolverhampton's first artist-in-residence was born in Jamaica in 1959. Sylbert came to Wolverhampton in 1970 to join his parents.

Sylbert took a first degree in Fine Art at The Polytechnic Wolverhampton, graduating in 1980 as the first Black student nationally to gain a first class Arts degree. He later went on to take a MA degree at Reading University.

On August 7, 1987 Sylbert Bolton became the first ever artist-in-residence at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. In 1987 the Art gallery staged a major exhibition featuring his art.
