Black History Month Launch Event 2016 Review
Wolverhampton’s Black History Month Launch took place on Friday 30th September at the Heritage Centre, Clifford Street, Whitmore Reans.
The event was attended by people from the African and African Caribban communities, and officers from Wolverhampton Homes.
Drumming was provided by Kalila Drumming and Yvette Layne read some Barbadian inspired poems. A member of the audience also read two poems. The main performer was saxophonist Samantha-Jayne. Paul Riley provided the PA.
The audience held a brief discussion about Black History Month. Most expressed the need for the Black community to take ownership of Black History Month and not rely on financial support from mainstream organizations.
Jeremy Luv spoke about the concept behind his art.
Post event feedback was very positive. One individual praised the organizers for ‘an inciteful and inspiring event’.
The Launch Event closed after 9.00 pm.
